Hi Everyone! I hope you had a great weekend! We continued celebrating Austin’s Birthday with family, I got in a Soul Cycle class and Austin and I got in a date night. I’d say it was a win all around! Austin’s Dad made the most delicious chocolate cake from scratch and since I allowed myself to cheat on lent for his Birthday, I went all in with a giant slice. It was literal heaven. Two more weeks until I can eat sugar again. I really hope taking this break has broken me of my addiction (and the constant binging on mini eggs) to sugar!
Ok, I am excited about this post. It’s centered around the rapid rise of certain trends on social media. These are the things you’ll see in your feed so often, that you’ll either be tempted to try them out or they will cue your biggest eye roll. This topic has been on my mind for some time and I wasn’t sure how to structure it…but I think this could be a regular post moving forward. Let me know your thoughts!
I swear, last week everyone was on social media slurping down celery juice based on the suggestion of a medical medium (a lot of thoughts and doubts creeping into my head about that one) and this week I can’t scroll through my feed without seeing everyone wearing some sort of beaded hair clip on the side of their head. Don’t get me wrong, I’m INTO it and love seeing WHAT people are currently obsessed with (GG crackers) but it’s just crazy to me the power of social media and its ability to propel trends- be it health, fitness or fashion at warp speed. Luckily, something like a beaded hair clip is SAFE- even if it is repeated at nauseam in your feed. But the health and diet stuff? I’d exercise caution with those. Today, anyone can be an “expert”. But if someone is suggesting I drink 16 ounces of celery juice a day to cure everything from eczema (of which I suffer) to cancer, you better believe I’m doing my own in depth research. And I did! And let’s just say I will not be spending the time or money to juice celery. So let’s get back to the fashion trends dominating the interweb, shall we?
As much as I’m inspired by the latest it item (Fendi everything), I don’t want to be just another fashion blogger in your feed doing the same thing as everyone else. For me, it’s a delicate balance in trying to find some originality in this space all while being super inspired by the other influencers I see out there. This explains my love/hate relationship with Instagram: feeling super inspired and super fatigued with the repetition all at the same time.
Having said that, I presume you’re here for fashion and style inspiration so it’s my duty to share these trends with you, right?! Below I’ll break down my thoughts on these 3 trends and share my top picks with you in case you want to try them out. Please let me know if you do and as always, thank you so much for following along! xo
Bead Barretts
I actually love these. They are super feminine and I would love trying this trend for a night out. Probably would hold off during the day though- I feel like this could draw some side eye at drop off, lol. I have yet to take the plunge with these but will obviously share if I do!
Knotted Headbands
I’m INTO these too. Last month I purchased this simple black one and feel like it instantly elevates and chic’s up any outfit. I’ve worn it with a ponytail many times and feel like it adds that extra bit of pizazz to your look. Personally, I’ll probably just stick with the black one but I love seeing other people in fun textures and patterns! If I consider another, it would be leopard print.
Statement T-Shirts
So here’s my beef with this trend. I feel like if you LIKE AC/DC or Led Zepplin, then you do YOU and proudly wear that band t-shirt. But for me, it feels weird wearing a t-shirt of a band I never listen to…so band t’s are out for me (unless they make a Maren Morris rocker tee, lol- I’m obsessed with her new album!). They look REALLY cool on other girls though! Having said that, I’m all about a great statement t-shirt with a cool logo, design or saying on it. I recently ordered this and this and am so excited to style them!
Keep me posted if you try any of these out and as always, thank you so much for following along! xo
