Winter Skincare Routine

This post has been majorly requested so I’m excited to share my current skincare and beauty routines with you this week!  If you’ve been following along for a while, you know I’m VERY loyal to products and brands.  When I find something I love, I tend to stick with it for years and years.  In fact, it’s really hard for me to make changes in this department although I HAVE switched things up with my makeup lately which I can’t wait to share with you.  I’ll start today with skincare and share my makeup routine later on this week!

When it comes to skincare, I really follow the lead of the professionals.  I see my dermatologist twice per year for skin checks and always discuss my skincare with her while I’m there.  She’s really pragmatic when it comes to the essentials (and there are only two):

1.) SUNSCREEN– Using a broad spectrum sunscreen every day is the single best way to prevent wrinkles and signs of aging.

2.) RETINOL–  The best line of defense for smoothing fine lines and wrinkles besides botox.

My Take:  I’ve been pregnant or nursing for 4.5 years now so I can’t partake in the fun of retinol or botox.  But you better believe that the minute I stop nursing, I’ll be on the retinol bandwagon.  There are less concentrated types you can get over the counter but I really can’t speak to the quality of them since I’ve never tried them before.  My plan is to get the real deal from my derm though!  We’ve already discussed how to start retinol- slow and steady as it can be irritating in the beginning.  Will I do Botox when I can?  Probably!  I have a lot of lines on my forehead that I don’t particularly like and while I don’t want to look like a frozen statue, I also don’t want to have deep lines in my forehead.  I think there is a delicate balance here and it comes down to finding a great provider that has an expertise in this field. When I was a pharmaceutical rep, I used to call on one of the largest botox prescribers in the country.  He always talked about how preventative botox was for aging and that it’s much easier to prevent fine lines and wrinkles than it is to try and correct them after the’ve been there for years and years.  My dermatologist agrees with this mentality- prevention is the key.  So here’s my current routine:

Facewash–  I’ve used this for YEARS.  I like a squeaky clean wash and this gives just that!  I love that I can pick it up at Target or CVS when I’m out and about.  Should I consider upgrading?  Maybe…but for now, I’m happy with this!

Daily Moisturizer– The consistency of this is really nice.  It feels hydrating but not greasy- perfect for this time of year!

Sunscreen (apply right over my moisturizer)- This is the best out there.  Every derm I’ve ever spoken to swears by it.  I also use this on my kids.  What I love most about it is how clean the ingredients are.  I use the tinted one but it’s barely a tint in my opinion!  It comes without the tint if you prefer that and I swear, makeup glides right on over it! Seriously, this product is THE BEST.

Serum–  I only use a serum at night right after I wash my face.  In the Winter my skin gets pretty dry and this helps so much.  It is atrociously expensive but I got this little kit and have loved every drop of it!  When I run out, I plan on trying this as the reviews are incredible.  My other go to serum has been this but I prefer using it in the Summer as it’s lighter weight.

Night Cream–  In the Winter, I swear by this cream.  It’s thick, moisturizing and almost feels like a healing balm.  The company has an amazing back story which I encourage you to research- there is a personal reason this amazing product was created and WHY it has such a cult following.  Is it a splurge?  YES.  Do I think it is 100% worth it?  YES.  Do I put it on my Christmas list so I don’t have to buy it? Frequently, lol!  When I worked at Neiman Marcus, did I hear a rumor that J Lo slathers it (this big jar) all over her body with this jar?  Yes.  #goals

Eye Cream– Let me start by saying that my in-laws surprised me with this for Christmas two years ago.  I STILL have and am using the same jar.  That’s how long this tiny jar will last you! So while it’s expensive, it does last forever!  I love how moisturizing this is plus it helps with fine lines and puffiness- Lord knows I need all the help I can get considering my lack of sleep.  #momprobs

Cuticle Oil– I have to share since this product is a true MVP.  It sits on my nightstand and I put a few drops on my cuticles before I got to bed at night- I swear it helps so much.  My hands and nails are ridiculously dry right now and I swear by this!

Do you have any products you swear by?  I’d love to know!  One item I just ordered is this–  I’ll be sure to report back!  As always, thank you so much for following along! xo
