Chartreuse Skirt and a Taste of the Turf at the Del Mar Races

I hope you guys are having a great week!  A few weeks ago, Austin and I had the opportunity to head to the Del Mar Racetrack for a day of champs, delish food and horse racing.  The Del Mar racetrack is an iconic place in San Diego and on Opening Day of the Season, people come with their fancy hats to party and enjoy the races.

We were invited to a special event there recently which included a food tasting by famed chef, Brian Malarkey, bottomless mimosas and dining in the Turf  Club while overlooking the beautiful race track. I mean, twist my arm! It was a great “day date” and something totally different to do on a weekend. Taste of the Turf Club is an exclusive brunch held on the infield of the track every Sunday during the season (which runs until September 3).

The menu is prepared by Herb & Wood’s Chef Brian Malarkey. The menu changes weekly, but includes an appetizer, entrée, dessert and bottomless mimosas. Brunch begins at 12 PM, and the first race kicks off at 2 PM. Let me start by saying the food was spectacular!  My eggs benedict with Cardiff crack was one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted.

The ambiance of the race track made for a great day.  The view from the Turf Club is incredible (and shaded) and you get your own personal TV to watch the races on! Austin and I made several bets (and lost), but overall had the best time being at the racetrack.  It is worth mentioning, that men need to wear a suit jacket to enter the Turf Club.  Not to worry though- if you or your guy forgets this, they have some you can borrow!  But they really do adhere to a strict dress code (which I actually think is really fun- nobody dresses up anymore!).

Speaking of outfits, I decided to pair this chartreuse skirt with my favorite white bodysuit and it was perfect “race attire”.  This skirt will be great to transition into Fall with (I can see pairing it with a moto jacket or denim jacket when it gets chiller out) but could also be your go-to skirt for all things church/bridal or baby shower/ baptism…or really any event where you need a pop of color with a classic silhouette.

We decided to make this an annual outing during the race Season because what is more fun than getting dressed up, eating, drinking and hopefully winning some cash?!  Have you been to the race track? As always, thank you so much for following along! xo
